Legally required WIBA cover for housekeepers, guards, nannies, gardeners, and other domestic employees — typically from KES 3,500 per worker per year.

Under the Work Injury Benefits Act (WIBA), every Kenyan household that employs domestic staff — housekeepers, guards, nannies, gardeners, drivers — is legally required to insure against work-related injury, disease, or death. The Act applies regardless of the number of employees: even a single domestic worker triggers the obligation. Enforcement has tightened materially in recent years, and DOSHS now actively pursues household non-compliance.
Vike has streamlined the placement process so a typical 1–3 worker household pays a flat annual premium starting from about KES 3,500 per worker, with cover bound within 48 hours of application. Most households we speak to are surprised at how cheap the cover is — and at how exposed they were before. The peace of mind, both legal and human, is genuinely disproportionate to the cost.

Cover for one named domestic employee. Cheapest entry point; many households start here when formalising long-standing arrangements.
Covers up to a defined number of workers (e.g. 4 or 6) on one policy without naming each individual. Suitable for households with rotating or temporary staff.
Adds common-law cover for negligence claims beyond the WIBA schedule (often relevant for serious injuries with large potential damages awards). Strongly recommended.
Adds a personal accident layer for the worker — paying a defined sum assured on accidental injury regardless of fault. A meaningful benefit enhancement at modest cost.
Medical treatment paid in full; temporary disability benefit (a percentage of wages) covers the 6 weeks she is unable to work. No out-of-pocket cost to the household, and full legal compliance with WIBA.
WIBA covers the medical costs and any permanent disability lump sum. Employers' Liability extension defends against any negligence claim the guard or his family might bring against the homeowner for failing to provide protective equipment or training.
Occupational disease cover responds to the medical treatment and, if the condition is severe enough, any permanent disability rating. Disclosure at policy inception is important to avoid disputes about pre-existing conditions.
