All Risks insurance in Kenya covers portable business equipment, such as laptops, phones, tablets, cameras, portable printers, and survey or medical instruments, against accidental loss, theft, and damage wherever it is, including in transit and, with worldwide cover, abroad. Burglary and Fire & Perils only protect items at your premises, which is where portable kit spends the least time. Premiums are rated on the replacement value of the items listed: typically about 0.75% of that value a year, subject to a minimum premium of around KSh 5,000. Each item is specified on the schedule, and an excess of about 10% of each loss applies. Vike places it with IRA-regulated underwriters and keeps the item list current at every renewal.

  • Typically about 0.75% of item value a year, minimum around KSh 5,000
  • Accidental loss, theft, and damage, on or off premises
  • Worldwide cover available for travelling staff
  • Each item specified on the policy schedule
  • Excess typically about 10% of each loss

Rates shown are typical market rates, given as a guide only. Your actual premium is set by the insurer after underwriting and depends on your risk, sum insured, claims history, and security; government levies are added.

Reviewed by Lawrence, Broking Manager, Vike Insurance

A laptop stolen from a car, a phone dropped on a site visit, a camera damaged at an event: these are the losses businesses actually suffer on portable equipment, and none of them is covered by a burglary policy, which needs forcible entry to your premises, or by Fire & Perils. All Risks cover follows the item wherever it goes, and pays for accidental loss, theft, and damage unless a specific exclusion applies.

Vike places All Risks for field sales teams, consultants, surveyors, media and events companies, NGOs, and any business that equips staff with laptops and phones. We build the schedule from your asset register, set sensible excesses for high-volume items like phones, and add worldwide cover for staff who travel.

What It Covers

  • Accidental loss of listed items

  • Theft, including theft from vehicles (subject to the locked-boot condition)

  • Accidental damage, including drops and liquid spills

  • Cover on and off your premises, including in transit

  • Worldwide territorial limits (if selected)

  • Pairs and sets: loss of one item from a set

Who It's For

  • Businesses that issue laptops and phones to staff

  • Field sales, survey, and inspection teams

  • Media, photography, and events companies

  • Consultants and professionals who work on client sites

  • NGOs with staff working in the field

  • Healthcare providers with portable medical instruments

Types We Cover

Each profile is rated and underwritten differently. Talk to us so we can match your specific situation.

Staff Laptops & Phones

The most common structure: company-issued laptops, phones, and tablets listed by item. Typically about 0.75% of their value a year, subject to a minimum premium.

Cameras & Production Kit

Cameras, lenses, lighting, and audio gear for media and events businesses, usually with worldwide cover for shoots abroad.

Specialist Instruments

Survey equipment, portable medical devices, and test instruments that travel with technicians between sites.

Real-World Scenarios

Laptop stolen from a parked car

A sales manager's laptop is taken from the locked boot of a car during a client visit. All Risks pays the replacement cost less the excess. Theft from an unattended car is covered only when the item was locked out of sight, which is why we brief staff on the condition.

Phone dropped on a site visit

An engineer's phone is cracked beyond repair on a construction site. The policy replaces it less the phone excess. Neither Burglary nor Fire & Perils would respond, because the loss happened away from the premises and involved no break-in or fire.

Optional Benefits & Add-ons

Worldwide territorial limits

Reduced excess on high-value items

Automatic cover for newly purchased items (up to a limit)

Hired-in equipment

Availability varies by underwriter. Our advisors will confirm what is available on your chosen policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is All Risks different from Burglary insurance?
Burglary covers theft involving forcible entry to your premises. All Risks covers listed items wherever they are, against accidental loss, theft, and damage. Portable kit needs All Risks, because most of its losses happen away from the office.
How much does All Risks insurance cost in Kenya?
It is rated on the replacement value of the items listed: typically about 0.75% of that value a year, subject to a minimum premium of around KSh 5,000. Government levies are added on top, and a lower rate may apply for large, well-managed schedules.
Is theft from a car covered?
Usually yes, but only if the vehicle was locked and the item was out of sight, typically in the locked boot. Items left visible on a seat are a common reason for declined claims.
What excess applies?
Typically about 10% of each loss, subject to a minimum amount that is set lower for mobile phones than for laptops and other equipment.
